Spontaneous Expression: Miniature Folk Style Painting Workshop

This event is part of Tree of Life — an exhibition held at Mystik River Gallery from August 30 to November 2.

This 2-hour workshop offers a hands-on introduction to the miniature folk painting style inspired by Narendrababu’s Tree of Life series - a vivid fusion of Indian traditional folk art with a contemporary twist.

You’ll learn how to compose a rich, narrative artwork on a small-scale canvas using acrylics, incorporating flattened perspectives, symbolic proportions, and personal motifs. Guided by the artist’s approach, we will explore themes from village life, temple architecture, festivals, and nature, while weaving in your own stories and modern-day elements.Working on a small canvas encourages spontaneity, playfulness, and focus, making it a perfect gateway into folk-inspired artmaking. By the end of the session, each participant will have a completed miniature painting to take home.

Open to both beginners and experienced artists. All materials are provided.

Seats are limited to 8 participants ensure a personalised experience.

Special Offer: When you purchase a ticket for this workshop, you’ll receive an exclusive promo code for $10 off the Meet the Artist talk, held from 11:30 to 12:30 pm at the gallery. Your code will be sent in your order confirmation email after checkout.

About Your Mentor - K. G. Narendrababu

K.G. Narendrababu is a South Indian artist, born in the town of Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu — a town famous for its ancient temples and silk traditions. This cultural backdrop shaped the artist, who now works across painting, graphics, textiles, and embroidery.

After completing his diploma and master's degree in painting at Chennai's Government College of Arts and Crafts, Narendrababu spent decades traveling and researching folk traditions. His art reflects this journey, blending India's cultural heritage with a modern artistic perspective. Narendrababu's dreamlike compositions are inspired by village life, folk culture, local architecture, and images of flora and fauna. Drawing from the colours of pilgrim towns, the rhythms of festivals, ancient temple complexes, and the craft of weavers, he creates pictorial worlds where reality and fantasy merge.

Widely exhibited in India and internationally, including in South Korea, Narendrababu has received numerous national awards, earning recognition from both the public and the professional art community.

We look forward to welcoming you in our space!
