A classic depiction of Sitting Buddha hand carved by artist V. Sompura. Made entirely from white marble, the facial features and body posture exudes serenity. Hand carved by our Indian Artist V.Sompura, This contemporary buddha is sculptured in pure white marble.
Elegantly positioned on a lotus statue, this representation of Buddha rests in the meditation mudra. Eyes closed with a subtle smile to the lips there is a sense of serenity and peace. The elongated ears and repeated curls that cover the head demonstrate the common traits associated with Buddha's features. There is no clear distinction between the beginning and end involving skin and cloth, the body morphs between the two emphasising the transparent, ethereal nature of Buddha's form.
ABOUT ARTIST - V. Sompura (Gujarat, India)
V. Sompura signature skill and technique lies is in his ability to work with white marble and soft granite. He is often inspired by images of Buddha, but also works around more modern and abstract ideas for his sculptures. His craftsmanship has gained recognition in India and his work has been used across various spiritual retreats. A wonderful example of his abstract marble sculpture is the AUM Ganesh.
PS: With all hand made stone and wood sculptures, there might be some natural erosion with cracks and spots, but that adds to the one of kind pieces that we sell here at Mystik River.
