This white marble carving of Lord Ganesh is crafted with a contemporary influence. The simplicity of shape is executed in short sharp lines by our Indian artist R. Mani. This minimalist approach achieves a unique modern appearance.

Ganesh sits on an elevated lotus with one leg tucked under him also known as the Lalitasana position or “royal ease”. Both arms are raised in symmetry each holding an axe to symbolise cutting off all bonds to attachment. His other two arms are lowered, resting on his knees. The left hand holding Ganesh’s favourite dessert; Modak. The other hand is raised in the abhaya mudra symbolising fearlessness and protection. Ganesh gently rests his trunk on his protruding belly. His trunk turned to the left to symbolise success in the world.

ABOUT LORD GANESH

Lord Ganesh is a son of Lord Shiva and his wife, Goddess Parvati. Clearly distinguished by his elephant head, Ganesh is a symbol of perseverance, protection, well-being, health, and prosperity. In India, Lord Ganesh is followed by every religion as a welcoming gesture or an introductory deity to start a new chapter in life (job, new house, wedding, etc.). Symbolically, the rat, which is his vahan or vehicle, is a representation of chaos, while a bloated tummy depicts accepting all inhibitions and negativities. Truly, Lord Ganesh brings joys and unlimited bliss to our lives.

ABOUT THE ARTIST - R. MANI (Tamil Nadu, India)

R. Mani born in 1965 , is originally from Mahabalipuram located in Tamil Nadu state, South India. Mani was brought up surrounded by art. His father, Dhruva Pratap was a well-known sculptor and maintained and restored the sculptures of the famous Konark Temple in South India, passing on his skills to his son.

R. Mani sources his inspiration from world famous temples of India such as Meenakshi, Khajuraho, Ellora Cave to name but a few. Influenced by Gupta and Kushan style sculptures, the artist specializes on traditional Indian Gods and Goddesses. He works with traditional Indian materials such as Sandstone, Granite and Marble

Holder of two awards from the President of India, he is especially well known for his Buddha sculptures. He imbues his Buddha faces with such serenity and a sense of blissfulness that it’s no surprise they are used by so many to assist in deep meditation in some of the leading meditation centres around the world. His intricate Goddess figures are equally revered and he has exhibited his work both in Germany and the USA.

Note: With all hand made stone and wood sculptures, there might be some natural erosion with cracks and spots, but that adds to the one of kind pieces that we sell here at Mystik River.
