Meditating Monk - Dharmachakra Mudra
Meditating Monk - Dharmachakra Mudra
An intricate statue dedicated to image of meditating monk. This piece is made from Burmese King's Wood (Weeping cypress), which is known for it's strong woody, masculine scent.
The monk is depicted meditating in Padmasana pose, his hand in Dharmachakra mudra. This unique mudra represents continuous energy flow. It is an iconic gesture in Buddhism, acknowledging the moment Buddha delivered his first sermon in Sarnath, to his disciples giving birth to first Buddhist sangha. It was said that by delivering the Dharma (knowledge) the Buddha thus set the wheel of dharma in motion - the wheel of knolwedge. Which comprises of the four noble truth and the eithfold golden path.
In yoga, this mudra is used at time of meditation to bring balance, focus and enhance prana flow through the body centres.
PS: With all hand made stone and wood sculptures, there might be some natural erosion with cracks and spots, but that adds to the one of kind pieces that we sell here at Mystik River.
