Artist K. Ravi specialises in woodwork and artistically carved interior decorative furniture. Translating into English, nartaki means dancing lady. The dancer is presented in a seductive pose, while performing a dance. Her voluptuous, feminine forms have been ideally carved by the artist, to further highlight the divide beauty of female body. She is ideal. Capturing our eyes, it seems as if she is the dancer is about to come alive and begin her performance in front of the audience. Surrounded by animals and mystical creatures, this work reveals a beautiful harmony  of human and nature.

Female figures, play a pivotal role in ancient Indian sculpture.  Such figures are often found decorating gates, panels and murals of ancient Indian temples. Female sculptures pay tribute to the physical and divine beauty of women, their feminine energy and sensuality. In India, images of women are symbolic of fertility and abundance of life.

Ravi completed his education in engineering but was drawn more to sculpting and decided to join his father, Mr Swamy. He specialises in woodwork and artistically carved interior decorative furniture. He is known for, making stunning figures of gods and goddess such as Kali, Durga, Laxmi and many of the different postures of Ganesha. He also produces ornamental doors used in various temples in South India as well doors of some of the affluent family bungalows in south India.

In 2014 he was awarded the Master Craftsman Award by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Ms Jayalalitha and recently was invited to France by the Indian Consulate to work on the Indian temple there.

Note: With all hand made stone and wood sculptures, there might be some natural erosion with cracks and spots, but that adds to the one of kind pieces that we sell here at Mystik River.
